Nishijin Weaving

We use Nishijin Weaving for our products.

The roots of Kyoto Nishijin weaving go back some 1,200 years to the founding era of Heian-kyo. Heian-kyo’s motive was to manage the production of textiles for court nobles, and employed weavers to produce luxury fabrics.

The Nishijin style of weaving uses yarn dyeing, in which yarns of various colors are woven to make patterns.

This technique is both time-consuming and labor intensive compared to other techniques, but it is indispensable for creating the elaborate and gorgeous designs required for kimono fabric.
