Every race has its own traditional clothing.
For Japanese, that is Kimono.
Until the recent modernization, Japanese people wore Kimono as everyday wear.
Now most of people wear Kimono only for the special occasions and it is true that most of us do not know how to wear Kimono. Surprising?
So we have Kimono schools where they teach how to wear it and they give a certification upon mastering the skill, which is called Kitsuke. Usually, those schools cost a lot, therefore, most of us remain without any skills to wear it by ourselves.
Then, what do we do when we want to wear Kimono?
Usually, we go to the beauty shop. They have professonals who can do Kitsuke, and they will do your hair and makeup that fit with your Kimono style. The whole service costs around $100 and even more.
In Kyoto, we have stores you can experience to wear Kimono. For the girls, you can dress like Maiko (apprentice Geisha), and for guys, you can wear Kimono in Samurai style.
